Upholding the Word, Impacting the World
Salt and Light
(Matthew 5:13-16) ESV
13 “You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people’s feet.
14 “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.
HISTORY OF DELIVERANCE CHURCH EMBUL-BUL
PREAMBLE
(Habakkuk 2:2-3) “Then the Lord replied, write down the vision and make it plain on tablets so that whosoever reads it may run with it,…for the vision awaits an appointed time. It speaks of the end and will not prove false. Though it linger, wait for it, it will certainly come and will not delay”.
Write down the vision…The voice of the LORD said…
We live at a time when people tend to forget their past. We easily forget where we have come from. God tells Habakkuk to write down what he had seen – when something is put on paper it becomes a preserve for the generations to come. This reminds me the children of Israelites were told to narrate to their children what took place during the Passover.
We felt honoured when asked to recompile the History of our church Deliverance Church Embulbul. Fortunately, we have been there from the very first day when the church started to date. We thus talk of what we have seen. We thus feel humbled to see what God has done and sing like an old singer who sang and said:
“Racuria maitho ma ngoro cianyu mwirorere wira uria urutitwo bururi uyu – ni wega wa Ngai urutite wira…”
Translation… “open your eyes and see the work that has been done in this land”. It is by the grace of God…
The vision to establish Deliverance Church in Embulbul was born in the early 1970s. Believers with a mission to spread the gospel to Maasailand began gathering in and around Embulbul in 1978. They would come together for fellowship, share the word, and pray for the gospel to spread.
On February 8, 1998, our first service was held and in October of the same year, Pastor Mueti and his family came to lead us, as our Pastor.
On the first Sunday of 1999, we moved to our new church grounds. With a PA system, amplifier box, horn speakers, keyboard, guitars, and other equipment to enhance our worship, we were ready for growth. And grow we did – between 1999 and 2001, our church saw a significant increase in members.
Our architectural drawings were completed in 2000, and we prayed for faith to grow. Although we had a small plot, we had a bigger vision. The Lord answered our prayers and granted us favor with the paramount chief Idd of Embul-bul, who agreed to sell us a 12-acre plot of land. And in September 2001, we had the title to our new property.
In February 2002, we moved into our new sanctuary and celebrated our fourth anniversary with Bishop William Tumuising. And in February 2007, construction began on a three-story church with a main hall, balcony, Sunday school classes, offices, boardroom, visitors’ room, kitchen, and more. We were determined to keep going, and God allowed us to grow beyond our wildest dreams.
Today, we have planted churches across the country, from Namanga Church near the Tanzanian border to Flyover Church on the Nairobi-Naivasha road, from Maseno Church on the Kisumu Busia Road to Karen-End Church on the Karen-Kikuyu Road, and more.
All glory to God, who has graciously allowed us to grow and spread the gospel.
